Who’s ready to beat the heat and read about some of our most favorite Things to do at Night When Vacationing in the Smokies?! We know you’ll be counting down the days to come and see us here at Big Bear Resort.
Gatlinburg Space Needle – While you can enjoy this attraction at any time, visiting at night is just an incredible experience. Getting to see the sunset over our majestic Smoky Mountains is a breathtaking site to see. You’ll ride their glass elevators to the observation tower and be able to take in a stunning 360° view of the rolling hills surrounding you. Later on at night, you can see all of downtown Gatlinburg lit up and the lights will twinkle all around you, so getting to visit during the holiday season is even more special. This is an absolute must do.
Hillbilly Golf – Anytime you drive by this attraction, there’s always a line and it’s for good reason. This is unlike any other mini golf course you’ve ever experienced. You are traveling through the mountains (as it’s actually built on the side of one), every hole offering a new kind of thrill. Best of all, you get to ride the incline 300 feet up to the top of the mountain where two exciting 18-hole courses are waiting for you. Going to this one at night takes away having the sun glaring at you and it’s still one absolutely amazing adventure to do with the family.
Ole Smoky Moonshine – Even if you have kids with you, this is still one to visit, especially later on in the evening. Right outside the actual shop at traffic light #8, they have rows of rocking chairs all spread out around a stage where four piece ensembles play live music all throughout the day and into the evening. The amazing bluegrass music will have you rocking and tapping along the entire time and it’s truly one of our favorite places to visit when we’re in the area. If you’re 21 or older, don’t forget to stop inside and sample their tasty moonshine!
Ole Red Gatlinburg – This new restaurant and entertainment venue is probably already on your list of places to check out. Just the name Blake Shelton is more than likely enough to get you excited for this one. Even if you’re not wanting to eat, they have artists playing daily that you can come and listen to and enjoy a beverage. It’s an experience for everyone and we’ve heard excellent reviews so far. Their food is delicious and the entertainment has been top notch. Make sure to check out the website to see who’s performing and to check out their eclectic menu!
Ghost Walk of Gatlinburg – If you’re feeling brave enough, this is one thrilling adventure from beginning to end. According to their website, this one hour night tour takes you through a bunch of the most historic yet haunted places in town on this mile long trail. Something to keep in mind, this is not a haunted house, but rather an experience that features spooky storytelling of the last 100 years in Gatlinburg and all the afterlife that might just be watching us.
Rocky Top Mountain Coaster – These are some of the most popular attractions in town and this new one out on Veterans Blvd offers a whole new experience for us all to enjoy. While most you want to visit during the day so you can take in all the beautiful mountain surroundings, this particular one you will want to check out at night. This one has incredible neon lighting that accompanies your entire journey as well as tunnels that are lit up to venture through. You can control your own speed with this one so you can enjoy whatever kind of ride you’re looking for. Younger kids can also ride with parents so everyone can go on this one of a kind adventure.
The Island – This one stop shop has everything you are looking for and it’s easy to spend hours here. Visiting at night offers an amazing experience as well. They have a free fountain show every night that you won’t want to miss. Watch as the water lights up and dances around to a choreographed set of songs that is completely family friendly. They have chairs all around so grab a seat and enjoy the show! Just like in Gatlinburg, Ole Smoky is nearby so you can check out some free live entertainment once again. They also have the Great Smoky Mountain Wheel – an enclosed ferris wheel where you can watch the beautiful sunset over the mountains from way up above and see all the dazzling city lights at night.
The Track – Do you feel the need, the need for speed? We know we love some go-karting and going at night is always a fun time. Feel the breeze as you whip through their amazing tracks to see who in the family will take the victory of coming in first place. Not only do they have the go-karts, but they also have an arcade, kiddie rides, bumper boats and cars, and more. This family friend attraction has been around for quite a while and always offers a great time for everyone.
Governor’s Crossing 14 – This movie theater offers a fantastic experience for the entire family. They have reclining chairs in some rows and some SXS auditoriums that feature a 46,000 watt stereo sound system for an even more incredible movie going experience. There is nothing better than going to a movie at night with your loved ones!
Nascar Speedpark – This family friendly attraction is full of nonstop fun that will have everyone smiling from ear to ear. Not only is there go-karting, but they also have a coaster as well as plenty of other thrilling adventures and rides.
