It’s vacation time so of course, we want to visit a bunch of fun places with our loved ones during our trip! We know it’ll be hard to steal you away from your balcony, but trust us when we say, there are so many exciting things that you’ll want to add to your itinerary. First up is the Smoky Mountain Alpine Coaster. If you’re looking to check out our views in a new and unique way, this is just the place for you! Do you feel the need, the need for speed? This is the longest downhill ride in the U.S. and it’s one that the whole family will love. You can control your own speed with this one, so if you’re just wanting to take your time and enjoy the ride, that’s just fine. If you’re an adrenaline junkie, then you will love getting to reach speeds of up to 27 mph. This is sure to become a family favorite. Next up is Goats on the Roof and this is one that you’ll be talking about for years to come. This is one of the most unique experiences you’ll have here in the Smokies because you can feed live goats on the roof of this popular attraction! They also have quaint stores, a sweet shop, gem mining, and a mountain coaster. It’s nothing but entertainment here so it’s definitely a must-visit. There’s also another amazing gem mining spot that the kiddos are sure to love, it’s called Friendly Falls Gem Mine and it’s creek-side. Here you will also find a crafts store, a private waterfall, and even a restaurant. Ready to fly through the air? I think that means it’s time to visit Wears Valley Zipline Adventures! It’s another exciting way to experience our majestic mountains. They feature some of the highest ziplines in the region so you will really get to be up close and personal with our rolling hills. We are sure that this is one adventure that you all will never forget. You just can’t beat getting to spend your Summer in Wears Valley by trying out these outdoor activities.
Wears Valley is home to some amazing restaurants that you all will want to try. A lot of them are locally owned and operated, making them even more special and worth visiting. We know there are plenty of places to dine at, so we will just include some of our absolute favorites that you won’t want to miss this trip. Elvira’s Cafe is a must-visit if you’re looking for some of the best food and hospitality that you can find here in the Smokies. They’re the type of owners that always remember your name and treat you like you’re a member of the family. They serve some of the best breakfast (make sure to try their biscuits) around and their lunch is just as good. You will fall in love with this charming restaurant, trust us. Another one of our favorites is the Hillbilly’s Restaurant They have some of the most delicious burgers and onion rings that I’ve ever had, everything is fresh and tastes amazing. You can’t miss this place just by their sign alone and we’re sure it’ll become a family friendly. If you’re looking to try some finger-licking good barbecue, then you will definitely want to visit Boss Hoggs BBQ Shack. If I’m craving some ribs, this is where I go. They have tasty side dishes and incredible bbq that will leave the family wanting more! Mel’s Diner is a staple if you’re looking for all-day breakfast, lunch, and dinner. You will feel like you’re stepping back into the ’50s when you hear the jukebox tunes and order things like the Ralph Malph nachos! You will not be disappointed with any of these wonderful restaurants.
Wears Valley offers some other activities that may not be as well known as others in the area, but that’s what makes them special. Walden’s Creek Stables offers guided horseback rides through our beautiful mountains and much more. This is a special way to get to see the beauty of the Smokies up close and personal while having an unforgettable experience. They also have a Wild West Dinner Show that serves delicious barbecue while enjoying a fantastic event full of entertainment. They do a wagon tour throughout the mountains at lunchtime that the kiddos will absolutely love. This is such a magical place that you won’t want to miss out on. Want to cool off this summer? We recommend visiting Metcalf Bottoms where you can play in the river and cook up a delicious family bbq while you’re at it! This is completely free of charge, but you will want to get there early to reserve a picnic table and grill right on the water. It’s beautiful here and nothing beats getting to spend a day in the park. Want to learn about the history of our infamous moonshine? Visit the Jakes Creek Distillery for a tour that will tell you all about this special community. Best of all, you get to try some samples afterward (as long as you’re 21 years of age or older of course!)
